Procedures
TractorsThe owner of the farm uses many different kinds of tractors and machinery on the farm for tasks such as plowing, planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops. Here is a list of the machinery that he uses to take care of his crops:
Combines - used to harvest oats and some of the corn to be made into silage, which is used for cattle feed. Baler - used to bale hay or alfalfa. Cultivator - used to loosen soil and dig out weeds. Mower - used to cut hay or alfalfa. Rake - used to prepare alfalfa into rows for baling. Grinder - used to grind up corn. Manure Spreader - used to spread manure on crops. |
MilkingOn the family farm, the cows are milked in a dairy parlor. The cows are milked the same time in the morning and again in the evening. First the cows are brought into the milking parlor, where they are then put into a milking stall and given hay to eat while they are being milked. Milking is done with a machine, and the milk then goes through pipes and into a bulk tank, where it is stirred and kept cold. Minnesota State Dairy company comes to buy the milk every other day, which makes it into butter and cheese.
